Thursday Trends–Top Colors For Fall Weddings

It’s that time of year when the leaves start changing colors, different flowers and shrubs start blooming, and there’s a crisper breeze blowing. Fall is a great time for a wedding. In fact, we’ve had a wedding every weekend so far in September! The season may have no impact on your color choices, but if it does here are some of the top ones we’re seeing for fall weddings.

ORANGE: Whether it’s used in your bridesmaid dresses, flowers or linens, orange is definitely a fall wedding favorite. Pair it with a mustard yellow, brown and earthy green for the full fall impact. Take a peek at our orange inspiration board here.

OLIVE GREEN: You might not use this as the main color in your wedding, but it sure makes a great accent for napkins, chargers, table runners or florals. It looks classy with purple, lavender or blush pink. A rustic-styled wedding looks great with the combination of olive green, creams and burlap fabric. We also love the interesting mix of olive green, steel blue and a latte shade like this inspiration board shows. Check out our Olive Green Color Palette Inspiration Board here.

TURQUOISE: This seems to be one of the hottest colors of the year…and for all seasons! It looks great paired with orange and brown. We love it when used as a sash over a white chair cover. Flip through our turquoise color palette board on Pinterest for more inspiration.

RED: This will always be a classic color. It’s vibrant, and blends well with almost anything! We love it with black and white for a classy, elegant feel. It’s also a great pop of color against a white wedding dress when used in your florals.

Thursday Trends–FUN AND CREATIVE Placecard Ideas

Perfect Day Wedding Planners Place Card Table

Have you thought at all about the place cards for your wedding reception? This may seem like a very small detail, but think about this. When you arrive to a wedding reception, what is the first thing YOU look for? Where you’re going to sit, right?? So, do you think this is a pretty important aspect of the reception? YES!

We’ve had some really creative place cards at our weddings recently. Take a look at these ideas:

RUSTIC MEETS SHABBY CHIC — We love what Amanda and Andrew did with their place cards. The bride lovingly hand wrote each name on bright yellow card stock draped over a piece of twine strung inside a rustic picture frame. Miniature clothespins helped to keep them attached, while also adding an aesthetic touch.

WEDDING COLORS AND WINE CORKS — Kandice and Joe recruited a lot of friends over the past year to give them their wine corks. They carefully sliced the side of each one and then we set in the pre-printed cards. Each name was mounted on navy card stock for another pop of their wedding colors.

SENTIMENTALITY AND SIMPLICITY — Michelle and Marcus decided to keep it simple on elegant white printed cards in a calligraphy font. Their creativity and sentimentality came out in the picture display of Michelle’s parents from their wedding day many years prior. The frame is also a vintage piece and very special piece to the family.

DOUBLE DUTY PLACE CARD AND FAVOR — Katie and Andrew intertwined their wedding colors, seating placement AND a favor all in one! They hand wrote each name and table number and then mounted each to designer paper. The cards were then slid into a clear plastic bookmark holder which also doubled as a place to store the photo booth pictures! The ribbon ties on the ends proudly displayed their wedding colors. What a GREAT favor idea that will be used by many!

Tuesday Tips–How To Pick A Wedding Theme

Perfect Day Wedding Planners Super Bowl Football Wedding Theme

Combining the dreams, tastes, likes/dislikes, nationalities and personalities of two people for one of the biggest days of your lives is a big feat. Your wedding choices will be the first of many big decisions you make in your married life.

Here are some questions to ask each other and tips for choosing a theme you are both happy with:

1. HERITAGE — Consider the nationalities of your families. Have you always wanted to incorporate traditions from your religion into your wedding day? How will this play out in your choices together? Maybe you’ll both decide a destination wedding that fits with your culture is the best plan!

2. COLORS — This is usually the starting point for many couples. Maybe talk first as a couple about the colors you don’t like and go from there. It’s usually best to pick two or three contrasting colors instead of just one. You could even just go with different hues of the same color. Here’s a great Pinterest board with some color palette ideas. We also have several color inspirations on our Pinterest boards.

3. SEASON — Would you like the season of your wedding to dictate your decor theme? Fall is a wonderful time for an outdoor wedding and usually calls for the rich, deep colors of brown, orange, yellow and green. Winter is a wonderful time for blues and whites or the bright reds and greens of Christmas time. Spring is typically filled with a mix of pastel colors and the fresh floral blooms of the season. Summer is a great time for a beach theme.

4. LOCATION — You’ll want to make sure that any colors or themes you use don’t clash with your venue. If the room where you’re holding your ceremony has an art deco vibe to it, a vintage or shabby chic inspired theme will probably not work out too well.

There are many things to consider as you pick out the basic components to your wedding. However, once these are chosen, other decisions may fall right into place. Your Chicago area wedding planners are standing ready to help!

Thursday Trends–Bucking Wedding Traditions Part 2

image

We’re continuing our theme from last week with more ideas of things your wedding could do without…if you so choose.

7. FORMAL WEDDING REGISTRY — Brides and grooms are getting married later–in their late 20’s or early 30’s–and the need for a formal or traditional wedding registry is waning. Take advantage of services that work for you…a honeymoon and/or gift card registry are alternative options.

8. DINNER — No one’s coming to the wedding for the succulent steak or Cornish game hen, folks. Let’s skip the formal dinner and do something fun and themed instead–perhaps a self-serve brunch for late morning weddings, or a dessert or appetizer buffet. You’ll save yourselves a bundle and it’ll be much more fun for you!

image

9. ALCOHOL — If drinking at your wedding isn’t that important to you, skip it. You’ll be amazed at how much this will reduce your wedding budget expenses. If you do not feel strongly about one drink, service wine from your big-box warehouse store to serve.  Also, just going from Premium to House brand is a simple way to cut costs!

10. A “WEDDING CAKE” — When ordering the cake, don’t mention that it’s for a wedding. This will automatically double the price. Birthday cakes have two layers of cake and one layer of filling. Order a “three-tiered cake” instead with the two layers of cake and one layer of filling. Your guests won’t even notice. Then, serve on a buffet vs. being plated and you will not have waste! Or, how about just having cupcakes?

image

11.  WEDDING FAVORS — Unless you can pull this off for cheap and in a non-tacky way, don’t sweat the wedding favors. Instead, do something very simple or have a card at each seat stating that you are making a donation to a charity of YOUR choice. If you have a candy buffet, you could provide little treat bags to fill at a candy station on the way out. A glass votive with your wedding date on it isn’t going to last long at anyone’s house, except for your mother-in-law’s (maybe!).

12.  LIMOUSINE SERVICE— This is something to ask yourselves…do we have a friend who has a nice, fancy convertible, or specialty car? Can we make do with our own car decorated nicely? Mom and Dad driving us to the church might suffice!

The most important thing to remember is that it’s your love, your budget, and your day! Do what you CAN and do what YOU want!

We can certainly help you keep or buck those wedding traditions in the Chicago area, and we’re ready to get started!

Do you have other ideas for wedding traditions that can be “bucked”?

Tuesday Tips–Receiving Lines . . . Yay or Nay?

Perfect Day Wedding Planners Receiving Line Sweetheart TableHow in the world are you going to see, talk to and thank everyone who comes to your wedding?! You definitely want to extend your gratitude to friends and family who traveled from afar, and receiving lines have usually been the solution to this dilemma. Traditionally, they are also considered good and proper etiquette. But most wedding traditions and etiquette are being questioned like crazy these days! If you decide to buck the status quo, here are other options beyond the traditional receiving line based on the number of people attending your day.

  • Having fewer than about 50 guests? Have a cocktail hour right after your ceremony. After you get those last few pictures done, head on over where everyone is gathered!
  • For a guest list of about 100, you could just have your officiate dismiss guests row by row. You could stay at the front of your ceremony site or just outside the entry doors.
  • Any wedding over 150 guests should probably include the typical receiving line at the reception site or NO LINE AT ALL!

Perfect Day Wedding Planners Receiving Line Thank You

Finally, it is not a necessity to have a receiving line at your wedding. Focus on talking to your family and then meet the remaining guests on the dance floor, where you will likely spend the rest of the evening anyway.  Whatever option you decide on as a couple will be great. Do what fits your personalities and the “feel” of your wedding. Make sure your guests have fun and feel thanked and it’ll all work out just fine.

Thursday Trends–Candy Bars & Buffets: Top 5 Things to Consider

Perfect Day Wedding Planners Candy Buffet and Sweets Table

Life is short, eat candy! Sugary treats at weddings aren’t anything new, but the trend of having a whole table dedicated to PURE CANDY is one that has taken off like a lightening bolt! We guarantee your guests will gather around this buffet several times throughout the day and night. And here’s five sweet ideas to keep them coming back again and again.

1. Color — You’ll of course want to match your wedding theme. Stick with a monochromatic look or go all out with a rainbow of colors and candy types. Also, different shades of the same color looks really chic.

2. Variety — So many sweets, so little time! Malted Milk Balls™, marshmallows, rock candy, Hershey’s Kisses®, gumballs, gummy worms or bears, Pixy Stix, candy sticks, Jordan almonds, lollipops, Tootsie Rolls®, salt water taffy . . . we’re only scratching the surface of your choices. Maybe you’d like to have all the old time candy products like this site offers.  Click here to look through our “Candy Buffet Inspiration Board” on Pinterest.com. Be sure and follow us while you’re there.

3. Labels — Tell your guests what they are sweetening up with by labeling each item. There are lots of free printables available online like this or this. Or pass this detail on to your wedding planner.

4. Levels — Display the treats in different sizes of glass jars or bowls. Make sure you have varying levels so it is pleasing to the eye and easy to reach. We recommend having your wedding planner do all the set up or hiring a candy buffet company to take care of everything from purchasing to set up to clean up. This will ensure you have an expert looking display.

5. Double Duty — Your candy buffet can also serve as your wedding favor. Have some bags customized with your names or a sweet saying like this. Place them on the table so your guests can take their treats home. You could also display this lovely poem in a frame:

Step right up to this candy buffet,

It’s a sweet addition to a wonderful day.

This is a treat we are offering you,

On this day when we say “I Do”.

Use the scoop, choose what you like,

Leave some for others, be polite.

As you enjoy your bag of treats,

Please remember

Love Is Sweet!

Do you have any other suggestions for sweetening up the candy buffet?

Tuesday Tips–Top 8 Do’s and Don’ts in Planning Your Wedding

Top 8 Do's and Don'ts in Planning Your Wedding
–> DO set your date so you know which venue works within that. This is the #1 thing to do. Check with your immediate family and closest friends.
–> DON’T hire vendors before your wedding date is booked at your venues.
–> DO book your venue. Definitely the second most important thing to do.
–> DON’T hire your florist without having your wedding party size confirmed and wedding theme chosen. How can you choose without knowing what look you are after?
cropped-istock_000019128966small.jpg
–> DO hire a planner who helps you stick to your budget and saves you costs. Read our post here about tips on hiring a wedding planner.
–> DON’T take on too many DIY projects. You will overwhelm yourself, and max out the stress. We suggest only 1-3 smaller projects. Pinterest wedding ideas will take over your life if you let them. 🙂
–> DO start your wedding timeline (schedule of events) once you begin booking your vendors. Click here for a sample timeline.
–> DON’T jump ahead in the wedding schedule. The suggested order is there for a reason. When one thing gets ahead of another, there can be an unintended ripple effect.
